House Hippo

The house hippo commercial is a good example of how easily the media can sway people's mind into believing anything they see. The commerical has realistic qualtities on how a "house hippo" would actually live and is very believable that one actually exists until the end. The professional video qualtiy also adds to this.

When kids see this commercial, most of them are convinced that they are actually real. I actually believed that the house hippo was real for many years until I actually listened to the ending and thought about what the girl was saying. Since she actaully didn't say "The house hippo is not a real creature, we are just showing you how easily you believe media", some people have a hard time reading between the lines to what the commerical is actually saying. Being a kid, by the time she starts talking I'm already daydreaming of having my own house hippo instead of listening.

Using professional video, audio, and making a story that sounds like it could be true, the "House Hippo" is a great example on how easily the media can sway veiwers into believeing something. It is very effective in doing so and shows that people should pay attention to what they are taking in and analyze it before taking it as fact.

  1. Great points in how professional quality and use of "facts" can make things appear to be true when they are not. How can we be better prepared at spotting fake information?
